from Decoder Magazine:

Secret Pyramid is the solo project of Vancouver’s Amir Abbey, also one part of drone outfit Solars, and gourd bless Weird Canada for insuring that something searchable exists online about a band called “Solars;” they called the last Solars tape, from Prairie Fire Tapes, a “fantastic voyage within the sublime realms of electronic nullism.” They further recommend Abbey himself, calling his previous solo cassette “mantras for anyone who has ever wanted to stare into the sun painlessly.” If you’ve bothered to follow the two previous hyperlinks, you’d be on they money if you were considering applying for a job at Weird Canada. There is a delicate liminality about his work, brooding ambient swells that often mimic the structured progressions of sacred chants; if in religious ceremonial there is an effort to conjure the presence of the divine, Abbey’s music seems only to contemplate a presence, certainly enough akin to staring at the sun or finding the crown of the universe hollow. For the album’s portentous opener, “A Descent,” Students of Decay are sharing an appropriately hypnagogic video accompaniment by filmmaker Billy Gomberg; check that out above, if you didn’t hit play before you started reading. Movements of Night will be available from Students of Decay this October.
